2019 Pyramid Hill Football and Netball Club President’s Report
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of the Pyramid Hill Football and Netball Club.
2019 has certainly been an action packed season. We’ve reached some great highs and experienced some challenging times. I would like to begin by acknowledging and thanking our tireless volunteers, without them a club cannot operate. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our club and most of the time go about their business without guidance, prompting and without any thought of gratitude.
I wish to thank our Board members for their hard work and commitment, not just over the 2019 season but many seasons; Marie Scott (secretary), Fiona Moon (treasurer), Kim Lister (netball operations), Kelly Gould (netball representative), Wesley Moon (Board CEO), Lorraine Dingwall (canteen manager), Robert Moon (bar manager) and Dirk Gunther (general committee member).
A special mention and personal thank you to Leigh Forster (football operations) who received the “Most Valuable Club Person of the Year” for being my right hand man, coordinating the wood fundraising, being part of team selections each week, running the Reserve’s bench and for everything else in between that Leigh does week in, week out to keep the Club running smoothly.
At the end of 2018 we sadly farewelled life member John “Chips” Gregory. John was a part of the 1950 senior premiership team and a much loved outstanding member of the Pyramid Hill community.
On the football field this year our teams were capably led by our coaches Adrian McErvale (senior coach), Gavin James (senior assistant coach), Dylan Tonkin (reserve’s coach) and Nathan Fitzpatrick (18 & under coach). For the first time in the Club’s history we were represented in the grand final across all three football levels; coming home with a Reserves premiership back to back and achieving the magnificent feat of three in a row for our 18 & under team.
On the netball court we were represented in the grand final by our 13 & under and 17 & under teams. We thank our coaches Emily Prout, Rebecca McKnight, Kelly Gould, Vicky Tierney, Lizzie Wiggins, Deb Forster, Adam Caspani and Lauren Gould for their time and effort over the 2019 season.
Pyramid Hill was well represented at the LVFNL Presentation Night with Billy Micevski coming Runner Up in the Senior League Best and Fairest, Nathan Moon the recipient of the John Forbes Medal for Reserves League Best and Fairest, Jan Farrell C Reserve Best & Fairest and Kearley Stone 15 & Under Runner Up. Braidy Dickens (seniors), Mitch Dingwall (reserves) and Ed Caburnay (18 & under) were the league leading goal kickers for their respective grades.
Our Social Committee has once again been proactive, in terms of membership base and people enjoying themselves while at the Pyramid Hill Football and Netball Club, all you have to do is reflect on the well attended events such as the Colour Run, the Annual PHFNC Ball, Suburban Footballer comedy night and our Grand Final celebrations. To me this personifies the camaraderie and connectedness that exists in the club, exemplifying our Club motto “Be Part of the Game, the Community and the Success”.
Identifying as a family friendly club we are proud of being a Good Sports Level Three Accredited Club and being nominated as a 2019 Award finalist. We have employed many off-field initiatives through our involvement with the SALT program and Good Sports. Our junior development is second to none and we thank our Auskick, Sporting Schools and Net Set Go coaches and coordinators. These programs are crucial to the succession and prosperity of the Pyramid Hill Football and Netball Club.
At the beginning of the season we officially opened the “Mitchell Park lighting upgrade project” built by the Mitchell Park Committee of Management Inc, PHFNC and the Loddon Shire in partnership with the AFL, Netball Victoria, AFL Victoria and the Victorian Government. A special thanks goes to David James who oversaw this project which now allows for us to hold night games and we no longer have players hiding in the forward pocket on a Thursday night training session.
I would like to extend our eternal thanks to all of our great sponsors, particularly noting our major sponsors; BLJ Building, Elders Insurance (Bendigo, Echuca & Donald) and Millers Ag. Without you we would cease to exist.
2020 sees the re-appointment of Adrian McErvale, alongside Adrian, Nathan Fitzpatrick will be stepping up into the senior coaching ranks, Stephen Donat will lead our reserves and Bailey Goodwin and Rhys Brown are taking on the junior coaching role. All netball coaching appointments will be announced in the near future.
In closing, 2019 has not been easy but what we should never lose sight of is everything that makes our Club great. At our core we are a proud and loyal football and netball family playing an important role in our community. I look forward to 2020 with a great deal of confidence, we are on the cusp of something great, we have the talent to drive the club forward in years to come, I fervently hope it can be a historic year.
Thank you for your ongoing support and confidence.
