Round 1 – Pyramid Hill v Bridgewater

Under 18’s

The thirds started off the season with a 101 point victory over Bridgewater. The boys played well together, led by new recruit Ryan Salvador, Zac Dingwall, and Matthew Farrell. With 11 debutants we gelled together well and the whole team did what they could to implement the structures with very minimal pre-season training. The margin was 26 points at quarter time and we did not take the foot off the pedal, extending that margin at every break. Hopefully we can maintain and improve on this form throughout the season. A massive thank you to Jack Craig, Rhys Bolton and Matt Wilkinson who came out on permit. Much appreciated boys.

Final Scores: Pyramid Hill 15.12.102 defeated Bridgewater 0.1.1

Goals: M. Farrell 3, E. Caburnay 2, R. Salvador 2, T. Piercy 2, T. Richardson 1, C. Ly 1, R. Bolten 1, M. Wilkinson 1, J. Craig 1, B. Forbes 1.

Seniors

We had 8 new faces take the field for our Round 1 clash with Bridgewater. Coach McErvale has had the boys up and about and eager to start the season for a while now so it was great to finally be playing. We were very fumbly early and Bridgewater made us pay with some poor decision making as we trailed by 6 points at quarter time. From this point on though we moved the ball with great precision and our defence was rocked solid. Post quarter time we piled on 16 goals to 2 with Matt Klein-Breteler best afield and Blagojce Micevski not far behind. Fitzy kicked 5 snags in an 84 point win! A great start to 2019!

Final Scores: Pyramid Hill 18.15.123 defeated Bridgewater 5.9.39

Goals: N. Fitzpatrick 5, S. Mann 2, A. McErvale 2, A. Holland 2, J. Willcocks 2, B. Dalton 1, J. Woodward 1, B. Micevski 1, B. Dickons 1, B. George 1.

Under 13’s

On a beautiful, sunny day in Pyramid Hill, the under 13 girls played Bridgewater had a successful win. Bridgewater tried their hardest, but the height of the Doggies played against them. Thank you to our new Coach Lizzie. Well done girls, great start to the season! Congratulations to Hayley King for receiving best on! Pyramid Hill 41 d Bridgewater 2.

Under 15’s

Our young Pups came out firing against Bridgewater with nerves and excitement on a warm and windy morning at Pyramid Hill. Starting with some nervy and silly passes in the first quarter saw the scores to be pretty even. However, as the game continued, the Pups stood their ground and won their first match of the season. A great first game for the girls! Best on went to Kearley Stone for her magnificent run in Centre. Pyramid Hill 44 d Bridgewater 18.

Under 17’S

A nervous start by Pyramid Hill and Bridgewater saw the scores even at quarter time. But Pyramid were quick to get their act together and started to play like what they had been practicing at training. Everything started to fall into place for the Doggies and it was a great effort for their first game of the season. All players played a brilliant game, and new Coach Vicky rewarded the entire team with best on for their incredible efforts. Pyramid Hill 42 d Bridgewater 22.

A Grade

A tough first quarter against Bridgewater’s experienced, quick A grade girls saw the Pyramid girls fight until the end. There were some great passages of play with lots of positives to work on at trainings. A fast game in hot, windy conditions saw the defenders work tirelessly, the mid-court creating many options and the goalies working overtime against physical Bridgewater defenders. Congratulations to new player, Grace Broderick, who has settled in nicely at the Doggies and will be a great asset to the A grade side this season. Bridgewater 47 d Pyramid Hill 27.

B Grade

The girls were very excited to take the court with lots of new faces and a chance to try out some new combinations up and down the court. It took the Doggies the first quarter to find their feet against a quality, well drilled Bridgewater side. Lani and Breanna worked very hard all 4-quarters in defence and the girls started to gel better as a team as the game went on, but Bridgewater proved to be too strong. Best on was awarded to Breanna Toomey, a new addition to the Doggie who has positioned herself well in the B grade side. Bridgewater 44 d Pyramid Hill 23

C Grade

First game of the season, saw a C grade side, with a mix of old and new faces, take to the court against a tough Bridgewater side. The whole team did a great job, up and down the court. Our defence was incredibly strong and competitive with the mid-court and goalies working well together to produce some good passages of play. Unfortunately the Doggies went down against Bridgey, but we are looking forward to gelling as a team and getting some wins under our belt! Best on went to our C grade star, Georgia Holland! Bridgewater 44 d Pyramid Hill 20.

C Reserve

Coach Kell’s C Reserve girls took to the court against Bridgewater with new girls Kirra Shephard and Tayla Pitts alongside Maddy Wagner playing her first senior game. The first half saw the Doggies and Bridgey both put up an intense fight with Pyramid Hill 7 to Bridgwater’s 10 at half time. New to shooting, Tylah created great space working well with Kirra in the ring and received incredible passages of play from Loz and Tayla. At defensive end, Maddy, Katelyn and Emma put up a great fight against Bridgewater’s accurate shooters. Well done to Loz Gould for being awarded best on for her fantastic movement in WA and C. Bridgewater 29 d Pyramid Hill 17.
