Round 5 – Pyramid Hill v Inglewood

Round 5 saw our “Irish Experiment”, Pete Gargan, notch up 100 games with the club.  Pete is always a friendly face around the place and we love having him here.  Congratulations Pete, we can’t wait to see what the next 100 games have in store for you!

U/18

The boys continued their strong start to the season with a 96 point win over the previously undefeated Inglewood. Whilst our accuracy in front of goal wasn’t ideal, our ball movement started to flow and as the game went on we were able to get some clean entries inside forward 50. Matt Farrell won the ball around the ground, providing forwards with plenty of opportunities. Birthday boy Ed Caburnay was terrific up forward, kicking 5 goals. Ryan Salvador provided plenty of run and carry, while winning hard balls left right and centre and Nick Skinner showed he is handful in the ruck. Congratulations to Kai Daniels who played a superb first game for the club and also Marco Fernandez who played in his first win for the Doggies.

Reserves

It was another big day for the boys taking on the ladder leaders and with 8 changes from last weeks side. After a solid slog in the first quarter the boys really stood up and it was a tough grind all day. It was great to get the win by 8 points and keep the season rolling along. With goals hard to come by at times it was great to see Louis “Vuitton” Lowndes again dominating the forward line and he maybe be in line for a call up to the ones soon enough. Jimmy “The Kid” Sala was all class throughout the day and slotted a couple of goals himself. Joel ” Round Head ” Woolhouse played all day in the centre and put his head over the footy, some people thought it could have been his older brother back in his hay day #thepackage. Brad “Benjamin Button” Fawcett is like a fine wine at the moment, getting better and better with age, he was absolutely brilliant across the half back line. Was a great family outing for the Moon boys with Nato, Matty and Brad all playing together and all having a great game. Woof Woof #upthe2s

Seniors

The boys were up and about early and boy oh boy it was great to see. With an 11 goal first quarter there was no looking back.  With an absolute clinical performance, the lads kept running all day and finished with a very nice 24 goal win. Bailey ” Boy ” George was a solid unit up forward booting 6 goals but could have been 10 with the form he was in. Scott “TheBetterman” Mann is in rare form and was again a ball magnet. Gavin ” Ego ” James was silky smooth and solid two way running provided a great assist in defence while he set up goals up forward. Stevie ” Smooth ” Gunther was all class getting the hardball on the inside and moving through traffic on the outside setting up his teammates. All in all the boys have had a great start to the year Woof Woof #upthe1s

Minis

Despite the early, breezy conditions, the Pyramid girls played with great enthusiasm and got off to a fantastic start. The girls made some beautiful plays and showed lovely sportsmanship throughout the game. There were patches of sunshine throughout the second half and this put even more of a spring in their steps as they performed like a well oiled machine! Awesome game young Pups! Well done to Charli Moon for receiving the award.

Under 13s

The day started off windy, but the under 13’s girls stepped onto the court with much enthusiasm. Despite getting some knocks, the girls still played with lots of energy. There was some fantastic game play from Caz and Hayley who won the awards. Well done girls on a great game! Pyramid Hill 14 d Inglewood 10.

Under 15s

The Pyramid girls knew it was going to be a tough game and it sure was! Inglewood were up 4-0, but the Doggies kept their cool and went on to win the first quarter. The next two quarters were strong and the girls focused on their set plays, there was a couple of position changes with little Erin running on in WD. The last quarter saw some questionable passing, but Keeley’s intercepts and Sammi’s accurate shooting kept the Doggies in the game. Well done girls! Awards went to Sammi Moon and Keeley Forster. Pyramid Hill 44 d Inglewood 15.

Under 17s

In windy conditions, the girls started off slow but got going after the first quarter. They were able to capitalise on many intercepts within the mid court and defence end. The Doggies had some great plays but will work on more clean passes and leads at training. The Pyramid girls prevailed with a terrific win and Amy Murfitt and Ella Rowe were awarded best on. Pyramid Hill 60 d Inglewood 30.

C Reserve

The Ressie girls had a brilliant match this week! Ally, Kara and Maddy stepped up from U17 and slotted in beautifully. All of the girls worked so well together and once they took the lead, Inglewood just couldn’t take it back! The award for best on could have been awarded to any of the girls today for their incredible game play but congratulations to Jan Farrell for her encouragement and direction of others as well as her stellar defense. Pyramid Hill 31 d Inglewood 27.

C Grade

The Pyramid girls came out firing with a strong start. The mid court was on fire with Kelsey staring with some amazing intercepts. All aspects of the court were strong and communication between the girls was on display. The Doggies were able to finish the game strong displaying great team work and getting their first win for the season. Best on was awarded to Kelsey Williams, a new face in C grade who has gelled in perfectly with the girls. Pyramid Hill 44 d Inglewood 12.

B Grade

Pyramid B grade girls started brilliantly with the girls playing a smooth, strong game. Pyramid were on top for the first two quarters. Olivia Hampson created lots of space in the goal ring and was shooting accurately. Imo Broad was quick and very handy in WD. Bree & Lani worked very well together, as always, in defence. Inglewood stepped it up in the third quarter and some silly mistakes from Pyramid saw Inglewood take the lead. Despite giving it their best, Inglewood ended up ahead when the siren sounded. Best on was awarded to Breeanna Toomey. Inglewood 39 d Pyramid Hill 35.

A Grade

The Dogettes had a few girls down, but took to the court determined to bring home a win. They got off to a firing start, winning the first quarter but by half time, Inglewood’s shooters shot accurately and pegged it back to 18-16. The rest of the match saw a hard fought contest with both teams giving it their all until the very last whistle, unfortunately the girls went down a measly few goals. Congrats to Jordann Broad who stepped up into A grade this week and slotted in nicely with her natural athleticism. Best on was Emily Prout. Inglewood 38 d Pyramid Hill 36.
