Round 6 – BL-Serpentine v Pyramid Hill

U/18

We knew the boys were on and ready to battle when the skipper arrived to the ground with matching shorts and sneakers – there were some thoughts from the general public that he forgot to get out of his pyjamas but maybe, just maybe, we may have a new fashion trend beginning. Anyway, the boys produced a dominate display with a victory over Bears Lagoon/Serpentine. An 8 goal first quarter gave us a 46 point lead at quarter time, which was stretched out to 90 points at half time and 131 points at three quarter time. A strong 11 goal final quarter resulted in a final margin of 201 points. Ed Caburnay kicked a huge bag of 8 goals, while Matt Farrell and Carlos Ly had heaps of the ball in the midfield, mini-Lazer also crept forward to kick a goal. Ben Forbes started strong, kicking 4 in the first quarter, ending with a tally of 6 snags. Our next hit out promises to be a tough one against the undefeated Maiden Gully YCW Eagles. Hopefully we can perform at our peak and remain on the winners list.

RESERVES

Another big game for the boys this week with a few key players missing. It was a brutal and, at times, ugly grind with Serpentine pushing us all the way until the last quarter where the lads stood up when needed and got the chocolates for the win. Nato “ Big Dog “ Moon was a animal in the ruck and really got the lads going in the middle. Tom “ Pots “ Walker was in and under all day and must have woken up sore the next day. Ryan “ Shane “ Watson was the general down back and really stood up when needed, he took some great marks as well. Sam “ The Parcel “ Mewett was running all day and did whatever job was required. The big boys up foward Mitch “ the one inch “ Dingwall and Louis “ Vuitton “ Lowndes had a great game booting 8 goals between them. Woof Woof #upthe2s.

Final Scores: Pyramid Hill 12.8.80 defeated Bears Lagoon/Serpentine 8.4.52

Goals: Mitch Dingwall 5, Louis Lowndes 3, Sam Mewett 1, Xavier Ryan 1, Ben Culross 1, Rys Brown 1.

SENIORS

This game was important for the boys to keep the momentum going through the early part of the year and also going into the the interleague bye. A scrappy first half saw Serpentine really taking it up to us. After the half time break though we put the foot down and had a satisfying 50 point win. Dylan “ The Truck “ Tonkin dominated all over the ground and was in mint form. Adrian “ The Flying Dutchman “Holland put on a masterclass in the ruck and dominated the air. Billy “ The Kid “ Micevski was a machine in the centre and should be putting his hand up for the AFL Mid Season draft, he is in hot form. Micheal “ Bestie “ Bateman was his reliable self down back and the forward pillars of Bailey “ Boy “ George and Braidy Dickens were in awesome form slotting 8 goals between them. Woof Woof #uptheones

A GRADE

In cold conditions, the A grade girls came out firing with the defensive trio of Milly, Breeanna and Jordann creating plenty of turnovers resulting in a slight lead for the Doggies. Amber and Emily shot accurately, despite the consistent pressure from Serp’s skilled defenders. The last half saw the Serp girls come out strong and take the lead, despite Bec and Grace taking numerous intercepts through the midcourt. The last quarter saw changes amongst the Doggies to try close the gap, but the damage had already been done. Bad luck girls! Congratulations to Amy Murfitt who came out firing in the third quarter and starred in the goal ring for her first A grade game! Best on was awarded to Grace Broderick for her fantastic movement up and down the court. Serpentine 44 d Pyramid Hill 31.

B GRADE

A strong start to the game saw the Doggies up in the first quarter but Serp never gave the girls a break, and their defensive pressure was strong earning them a comeback as the first half ended. Hannah Mullins shot beautifully the entire game and was always backed up by Georgia. Pyramid’s defenders shut down the Serp goalies with assistance from the midcourt as they brought the ball down the court quickly, but were steady with their passes. Unfortunately, the Pyramid girls went down by 1 goal in the final seconds of the match. Best on went to Hannah Mullins. Serpentine 40 d Pyramid Hill 39.

C GRADE

The C Grade girls were eager for another win against a hard Serpentine side. The Doggies started strong but found it hard to gain momentum with gun goaler Katelyn going down injuring her ankle in the first half. Georgia and Hannah stepped up, putting up a good fight in goals with defenders Kelly and Jess applying constant pressure against accurate Serp shooters. The mid courters worked hard with the star centre Becca fighting hard for every ball and being best on for the day. Serpentine 40 d Pyramid Hill 30.

C RESERVE

The Ressie Girls took a while to warm up this week. Serp took the lead in the first but the girls continued to fight extremely hard. A few positional changes saw the girls settle and strengthen to take the lead in the third quarter. Serp continued to work hard but it wasn’t enough and Pyramid won the match. Thank you to Ella and Kara who stepped up from 17s this week – both played a great match. Player of the match was awarded to Kara Farrell for her determination the entire game. Pyramid Hill 30 d Serpentine 26.

UNDER 15’s

It was a chilly morning as the Pups arrived at Serpentine eager for a win. The girls had a strong first half using great teamwork to jump in the lead. Positional changes reflected the team’s versatility as they finished of the match incredibly strong with Imo and Kearley obtaining turnover and executing them beautifully into the goal ring, awarding them best on for the game. Well done Pups! Pyramid Hill 60 d Serpentine 10.

MINIS

A cold morning saw the young Pups have a very good game. The girls played well as a team and are learning more about game rules as each Saturday comes around. The smiles on their faces added to the energy of their amazing game play. Well done girls on a fantastic game. Eloise got the award for always doing her best.
